This kit uses a unique lysis buffer to rapidly and directly lyse serum and plasmaRNases; strong organic extraction removes proteins and DNA. RNA, including small RNA species, is bound to a special silica-based membrane in the spin column in the presence of high-concentration ethanol, and then subjected to a series of rapid wash–centrifugation steps using specialized wash buffers. The wash buffers further remove cellular metabolites, proteins, and other impurities, and finally a low-salt elution buffer elutes pure RNA from the silica-based membrane.
